Skinny Jeans Contest 2017

This metabolism-revving, muscle-sculpting, confidence-boosting plan is built to get you looking and feeling your best this winter, especially in those skinny jeans. Our expert trainers will guide you through six weeks of boot camp style metabolic workouts and keep you accountable for your daily fitness and nutrition. This program includes twice-a-week small-group training sessions, and once-a-week boot camp sessions. This year, DietitiansABQ will work with participants to create individualized meal plans specific to your personal goals. The Skinny Jeans Contest has group challenges along the way, inspiring a spirit of fun and comraderie with fellow teammates, and the winning team and overall individual winner will receive amazing prizes from this year's sponsor, Strive! Kettlebell Workshops

Monday Evenings 6:30-7:30pm Jan. 23-Mar. 13

Kettlebell training is a great way to build strength and lean muscle and burn through body fat! Tracee has been a Russian kettlebell instructor for over 6 years, and in these workshops she will teach you how to perform basic kettlebell movements with proper form and safety. Each workshop will focus on a couple different movements to help you master proper form and technique. You can sign up for all 8 workshops, or just the ones you would like to learn!

WEEK 1 - Jan. 23: Deadlift; Swing
WEEK 2 - Jan. 30: Swing, Clean, Overhead Press
WEEK 3 - Feb. 6: Clean; Strict Press; Push Press
WEEK 4 - Feb. 13: Movements from first 3 sessions
WEEK 5 - Feb. 20: Snatch (*only for those with proper swing technique)
WEEK 6 - Feb. 27: Snatch; Turkish Get Up

Karate For Kids

Our goal is to teach the fundamentals of Shotokan Karate. This includes: Kata, Kihon and Kumite. Our students will learn self-defense, self-awareness, coordination, flexibility, self discipline. They will develop self-confidence, self-esteem and self-control.

Wheel-Thrown Pottery Class for Adults

Come have fun in JCC's Art Studio on our pottery wheels! Learn and refine the art of wheel thrown pottery. Make your own tea cups, coffee mugs, plates, and trimmed bowls by using a pottery wheel! ~ All finished works will be glaze-fired and food safe ~

Instructor: Celeste Boals, professional art educator and visual artist, has offered diverse art classes from ceramics to painting to mobiles to pottery for all ages, from 5 to 95, at the JCC for the past 6 years. Katherine Soskin One Woman Art Show

Katherine Soskin has used creativity as an outlet for her health challenges. Throughout her life, whether through song, cooking, writing, photography, poetry, painting or counseling, she has been very blessed to have wonderful teachers and mentors. Mostly, she is self-taught.
Her painting is a reflection of her travels, a palette for others to view the beauty of our world through watercolor, pastel, oil, acrylic or multi-medium. Having been told, it's a miracle you are alive, has given her purpose and deep gratitude.
For over twenty-five years, she has painted and photographed landscapes from Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, England, Greece, Israel, the Galapagos Islands, the Americas, the Midwest and now, especially, the Southwest. You can view more of her work at www.katherinesoskin.com.

Partner yoga expands the traditional yoga practice with the forms and principles of individual posture while incorporating the presence of another to deepen the impact of the practice. Familiar postures have renewed power and effectiveness when partners work together. Partners rely on each other's support to keep correct body alignment, balance and focus in a posture. Whether you are new to meditation or want to deepen and develop your systematic practice, instructor Rennie Maguire will guide you in this weekly 30-minute seated practice. Following a series of steps, you will learn to regulate your breath, focus your attention, quiet your nervous system, ease body tension and gradually develop inner peace.
All are welcome. Knowledge of diaphragmatic breathing, prior participation in Beginning Meditation and/or Meditation & Developing Your Systematic Practice is helpful to participation in this meditation group and overall development to any meditation practice.

Beginning Dance: (Ages 5+) Combines ballet and Jazz. Continued introduction to dance with emphasis on dance foundations, coordination, basic dance terminology, and learning dance etiquette. Dancers will develop strength, technique, and correct body placement in a creatively challenging atmosphere.

Each class will be fun, creative, and will build social and motor skills, appropriate to each child's level. The Fun and Fitness Hour for Preschoolers incorporates age appropriate activities that are sure to bring a smile to your child's face, and provide him/her with the opportunity to learn at the same time! The variety of activities includes a full 30 minutes of physical fitness activities, gymnastics, tumbling, field games as well as stories, songs and an occasional craft project.

A great way to train for personal fitness, swim competitions, and triathlons. Stroke development will be analyzed and competitive skills developed. This class is for 19 years and older. Must have basic knowledge of all four strokes.
