Intro to Judaism

The Rabbinical and Cantorial Association of Albuquerque, Congregation Albert, Congregation B'nai Israel, Congregation Nahalat Shalom and the Albuquerque JCC are sponsoring an "Introduction To Judaism" class for those on a Jewish Journey or who are interested in a journey toward Judaism.

Instructors: Cantor Barbara Finn, Rabbi Deborah Brin, Rabbi Arthur Flicker, and Rabbi Min Kantrowitz.

A Taste of Honey

Welcome to the 13th A Taste of Honey, the Jewish community's annual educational event that offers an opportunity to savor Jewish life at its best. This year we've organized the event around five topical areas—culture, history, music, spirit/soul and international intrigue. We are offering a total of ten carefully curated classes which will last 75 minutes. We begin with a keynote address by Jewish music historian Steven Ovitsky, who has lived around the US and currently resides in Santa Fe.

Register by January 30 for the early bird price then come to A Taste of Honey 2016 to engage in substantive presentations and discussions, gain new perspectives and information!     Rabbi Min Kantrowitz is a Rabbis Without Borders Fellow, teaches about Crypto-Jews and Conversos of New Mexico for Road Scholars (formerly Elderhostel), and also has private students. She directed the NM Jewish Community Chaplaincy Program for 12 years, serving unaffiliated Jews across the state. Rabbi Kantrowitz graduated from the Academy for Jewish Religion, California. She is the author of Counting the Omer: A Kabbalistic Meditation Guide. Formerly a psychologist and an architect/planner, she is the proud bubbie of three grandsons.

Meditation & Developing Your Systematic Practice

Learn to meditate in this step by step one day workshop using a classical yoga method. Following a series of steps, you will learn to regulate your breath, focus your attention, quiet your nervous system, ease body tension and gradually develop inner peace.

This class is for anyone who wants to learn mediation or develop a systematic practice. This class will be taught seated in chairs. Wear comfortable clothing. Bring a small pillow for back support (optional).

If you're looking for a great summer job or challenging career that's in demand, the Red Cross Lifeguarding program is the place to start. Through videos, group discussion and hands-on practice, you'll learn patron rescue and surveillance skills, first aid and CPR/AED. Courses are available with a focus on a variety of environments, including pools, waterfronts, waterparks and shallow water attractions. Must pass certain swimming requirements.

The JCC OrCaS swim team is a competitive, fun swim team open to boys and girls ages five and over who have achieved at least an intermediate level of swimming ability. The OrCaS are a part of the Sundance Swim League and will compete with other clubs around the state. The swim meets are held every week from the beginning of June to the end of July. The JCC will host the district meet for the Sundance Championships at the end of the season.

Aquaerobics

Aquaerobics is an enjoyable way to exercise while toning and trimming. Rhythmic water exercises are a wonderful way to keep in shape. This hour-long class takes place in the shallow end of the competition pool, which serves as an added resistance force.

Swimming 101 for Adults

Begin to learn the fundamentals of swimming. Swimming 101 will teach you the basics of all 4 swim strokes and help you feel comfortable and safe in the water. Classes are 45 minutes long.

Monday-Thursday Group Swim Lessons (8 Classes)

Monday - Thursday group swim lessons run in 2 week increments. Classes are 25 minutes long. The JCC Learn to Swim Program is designed to help your child learn skills from bubble blowing all the way to stroke refinement. This will include safety skills in, on, and around the water. As your child progresses through our program, they will learn specific skills that will help them advance through the five different class levels taught here at the JCC. We never let our student-to-instructor ratio exceed 6 to 1 for levels I-V.

ASD Swim Program

This swim program is designed around the communication and sensory needs of children on the austism spectrum. We will utilize visual schedules, social stories and teach in small groups. Classes will be scheduled during less busy pool times. Children will learn to be safe in and around the pool area. Emphasis will be on safety, having fun and making new friends. This is a great opportunity to meet other children with ASD.

Splash Ball July 9 - August 13

Splash Ball is on Saturdays from 9am - 9:45pm. Each session is 45 minutes long. Water Polo is a great fitness complement to many other sports as you develop strength, coordination and endurance! Splashball combines your swim skills with ball handling skills. You must have a beginner background in swimming (completed Level 2 Seahorse or above). We'll introduce you to the basic skills and concepts you need to play this exciting game: treading water (Eggbeater), ball handling (dribbling, passing, shooting) all mixed in with a ton of FUN! Don't miss the last class of the session where we put all of our skills together for a fun mini-game!

Fall Stroke Clinic is Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5pm-6pm.
Participate in learning to improve your stroke technique for the next swim season. This clinic is for both boys and girls that have a beginning to intermediate swimming level or higher level.

High School Pre-Season Stroke Clinic September 6 - October 21

$125/ Swimmer

Mon-Thur 6pm-7pm
*No practice 10/3, 10/11 and 10/12 for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur

This clinic is for both boys and girls to prepare for the upcoming High School swim season. Recommended for 8th grade swimmers and above. Each training session will have a goal of swimming 3,000+ yards, depending on level of experience and conditioning. The clinic will focus on:
-Stroke technique including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and individual medley
-Conditioning for all event distances in the High School swim meet format (50 through 500 yards)
-Race strategies for individual and relay events
Whether you are a new swimmer trying to improve your stroke technique and prepare for high school try-outs, or an experienced swimmer trying to achieve State Championship qualifying times, this clinic will offer a structured format and challenging workouts to help reach your goals.
