Camp Chai includes four structured time periods and two elective time periods taught by specialists in their field. Each two-week session, your child will be participating in the following structured activities: daily swim lessons, recreational swimming, sports, archery, arts and crafts, dance, gymnastics (K-1) and science art. Electives include: candy making, movie making, archery, a variety of dance options, sports, jewelery making, story time, and much more!

Horseback/Aqua Camp

Session I - May 26-29

Start the day at beautiful Heartlane Farms, Campers will learn the fundamentals of horseback riding, experience hands-on grooming, leading and basic care for horses. Each morning campers will ride for approximately an hour and a half to two hours. Professional staff provide individual and group instruction. Campers must wear a shoe with a heel for safety reasons; 1 inch (approximate) heel is recommended. NO tennis shoes. Children may bring their own approved horseback riding helmet. If your child does not own this type of helmet, a borrowed helmet will be provided by the barn (please no bicycle helmets).

Aqua Camp
Finish the day with a refreshing splash in the beautiful JCC pool. Bring a swimsuit, sunscreen and towel daily.

Parents will drop off and pick up children at the JCC campus. The JCC will provide transportation to and from Heartlane Farms. Bring a sack lunch and water bottle daily. You may also bring carrot snacks for your favorite horse! Contact Matt Westerlund at 348.4466 or mattw@jccabq.org.

LEGO Robotics Camp August 3 - 7

LEGO Robotics Camp: During this 5-day camp, participants will investigate the fundamentals of designing, constructing, and bringing their own robots to life with LEGO bricks, motors, gears, and many other electronic devices. Campers will learn about mechanical and software design, engineering principles, physics, and exploring their imagination through the LEGO Mindstorms NXT system, all while developing problem solving skills in both individual and small group activities. Enriched Learning Program: Math Mania Enrichment July 6 - 10

Camp Chai Mornings Session 3, Week 2

Students perform better in the fall when they spend even a small amount of time during the summer revisiting fundamental math facts and concepts. Math Mania makes math fun for kids who need a bit of a boost in the summer. Split into two age groups, campers will play math games and solve word problems, meet new friends and will become better prepared for the school year.

Kids will have a blast conducting experiments and testing their scientific ideas in a safe and creative environment. Learning about the earth, planets and stars and animals can be so much fun! Enriched Learning Program: Performing Arts July 27- August 7

Camp Chai Afternoons ALL of Session 5

$150 (This camp is in addition to regular Camp Chai Registration)

This two week-long camp will include jazz, ballet, tumbling, floor gymnastics, arts & crafts, musical theater, song, dance, & choreography class. Children will learn specific songs, dances, and scenes from an actual musical, and, at camp's end, children will have the opportunity to put everything they learned together for a big end-of-camp performance. Campers need to bring a sack lunch and water daily.

Fit for Life - Aaron's Weight Training

Mon & Wed, on-going, 10am to 11am, 11am to 12pm, or 5:30 to 6:30pm, $150

Aaron has his Masters in Exercise Science, is a book author, and is a Crossfit Level 1 Trainer.

His class focuses on becoming functionally fit for life! Aaron uses many traditional weight lifting modalities, olympic barbell work, power lifting, sled pushes, trx, cross fit, mobility work with foam rollers and bands, and much more.

CIT (Counselor in Training) Program

$800 Members and Non-Members
$275 for Individual Sessions

Our CIT trip to Malibu, CA has been a memorable learning and training experience for years! If you are 14-15 years of age and want to start taking on more of a leadership role in the camp setting, then our Camp Chai CIT program is for you. All of our CITs this year will go on a 5-day trip to the Shalom Institute Camp Center in Malibu, CA. They will take part in ropes courses, team builders, leadership training and have a great overnight camping experience. Along with all that the Shalom Institute Camp has to offer, the CITs will ride the train, take mountain hikes and go to the beach. The CIT team builder is a great way for your child to get prepared for their responsibilities as a JCC Camp Chai CIT.

Our CIT program runs for 9-weeks, from June 1 through August 7. "It taught me responsibility and had great ice-breakers that made you feel welcome. It was great to be around so many new friends," said former CIT, Leah Zalma. Any interested CIT will need to commit for a minimum of 2 sessions (does not have to be consecutive) and can choose to do all 5 sessions if space permits. Call Matt at 348-4466 to set up an interview and pick up an application.

An exciting class geared specifically for kids 6-12 years of age. Our expert trainer Nick has developed a cardiovascular, strength, and fitness training program with an exciting and unique approach! Your kids will be engaged in a safe and exciting environment! Let them experience how exciting fitness and working out can be. Classes are 45 minutes each session, 2 times per week, for 6 weeks.

Art Specialty Camp August 3-7

Art camp is an opportunity for young artists to spend an entire, fun packed week immersed in creating and talking about visual art! The week includes:
-A full day of clay, exploring both pottery and sculptural projects
-2 days on involved, 2-D, multi-media projects, which will include drawing, painting, collage, and more
-Half-day afternoon at the Albuquerque Art Museum
-Full day sculpture
-Half-day art exhibit on Friday
Themes include: traditional Native American, New Mexican culture and landscape, broad spirituality, and magic! There will also be an afternoon art exhibit on the last day. Art in the morning, art in the afternoon, throw in a daily swim at the pool, followed up with a few, gentle yoga classes; what more could your heart desire? Sorry parents, this camp is just for kids!

Golf Camp at Sandia Golf Club August 3-7

$310 Members

These comprehensive and exciting lessons will include the basic fundamentals necessary to learn the golf swing and all side-components of golf. They consist of learning the skills required for short game execution, specialty shots, course management and play. In addition, tips are provided on how to effectively get the most out of practice time, and what drills are helpful based on individual skill levels.

Following lunch every day, campers will get actual course play. Campers will work with the highest quality teaching professionals in the area who will instruct them with sound fundamentals to help them quickly reach their golf goals.

Children will need to bring a sack lunch, water bottle, sunscreen, hat and golf clubs to camp daily.

Drop off is at 9 am at Sandia Golf Club at the main entrance to the pro shop area. Sandia Golf Club is located at 30 Rainbow Road, NE. Campers will start getting bussed back to the JCC beginning at 3:15 pm. Pick up time is 4 pm.

Our goal is to teach the fundamentals of Shotokan Karate. This includes: Kata, Kihon and Kumite. Our students will learn self-defense, self-awareness, coordination, flexibility, self discipline. They will develop self-confidence, self-esteem and self-control.

Sunday group swim lessons run in 5 week session and classes are 45 minutes long (Parent &Tot classes are 25 minutes). The JCC Learn to Swim Program is designed to help your child learn skills from bubble blowing all the way to stroke refinement. This will include safety skills in, on, and around the water. As your child progresses through our program, they will learn specific skills that will help them advance through the five different class levels taught here at the JCC. We never let our student-to-instructor ratio exceed 6 to 1 for levels I-V.

Adaptive Swim Lessons (5 Classes)

$49 per session

The JCC offers adaptive lessons modified for individuals with special needs. This class provides swimmers the opportunity to facilitate gross and fine motor skills in a gravity eliminated environment. This class will include skills such as safe entry and exit of the water, submersion, floating, and swimming technique.

ASD Swim Program

$49/swimmer

This swim program is designed around the communication and sensory needs of children on the austism spectrum. We will utilize visual schedules, social stories and teach in small groups. Classes will be scheduled during less busy pool times. Children will learn to be safe in and around the pool area. Emphasis will be on safety, having fun and making new friends. This is a great opportunity to meet other children with ASD.

A great way to train for personal fitness, swim competitions, and triathlons. Stroke development will be analyzed and competitive skills developed. This class is for 19 years and older. Must have basic knowledge of all four strokes.

The JCC OrCaS swim team is a competitive, fun swim team open to boys and girls ages five and over who have achieved at least an intermediate level of swimming ability. The OrCaS are a part of the Sundance Swim League and will compete with other clubs around the state. The swim meets are held every week from the beginning of June to the end of July. The JCC will host the district meet for the Sundance Championships at the end of the season.

Splash Ball July 11 - August 8

Splash Ball is on Saturdays from 9am - 9:45pm. Each session is 45 minutes long. Water Polo is a great fitness complement to many other sports as you develop strength, coordination and endurance! Splashball combines your swim skills with ball handling skills. You must have a beginner background in swimming (completed Level 2 Seahorse or above). We'll introduce you to the basic skills and concepts you need to play this exciting game: treading water (Eggbeater), ball handling (dribbling, passing, shooting) all mixed in with a ton of FUN! Don't miss the last class of the session where we put all of our skills together for a fun mini-game!

Aquaerobics

Aquaerobics is an enjoyable way to exercise while toning and trimming. Rhythmic water exercises are a wonderful way to keep in shape. This hour-long class takes place in the shallow end of the competition pool, which serves as an added resistance force.

High School Pre-Season Stroke Clinic September 8 - October 8

$120/ Swimmer

Mon-Thur 6pm-7pm
*No practice 9/14 and 9/23

This clinic is for both boys and girls to prepare for the upcoming High School swim season. Recommended for 8th grade swimmers and above. Each training session will have a goal of swimming 3,000+ yards, depending on level of experience and conditioning. The clinic will focus on:
-Stroke technique including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and individual medley
-Conditioning for all event distances in the High School swim meet format (50 through 500 yards)
-Race strategies for individual and relay events
Whether you are a new swimmer trying to improve your stroke technique and prepare for high school try-outs, or an experienced swimmer trying to achieve State Championship qualifying times, this clinic will offer a structured format and challenging workouts to help reach your goals.
